Classic wooden boats are not maintained by programs or service plans. They are cared for by someone who understands them — and loves them as much as you do.
Who We Are
Wooden boats are not maintained by checklists. They are understood — the way a luthier understands a violin. Every plank, every portlight, every coat of varnish tells you something if you know how to listen.
Casper grew up in Southern California and trained at IYRS — one of the world's most respected boatbuilding schools. He is a Stephens Brothers enthusiast who manages and maintains Joie de Vivre, a 1960 Stephens, out of Newport Harbor. At 31, he is one of the finest wooden boat craftsmen on the West Coast.
Currently Under Care
1960 Stephens · 58 ft · Newport Harbor
A 1960 Stephens Brothers cruiser — white hull, mahogany trim, red waterline stripe. Twin 671 Detroit Diesels. Sixty years of California waterfront history, and she still turns heads at every anchorage.
Stevens Brothers operated their yard in Stockton, California from 1902 to 1987. They built elegantly. Casper maintains that standard.
What We Do
No silver plans, no gold plans, no 25-point checklists. Just the work that matters — done by someone who cares deeply about getting it right.
Teak, mahogany, every bright surface — stripped back and built up properly. Multiple coats, properly prepared. The kind of finish that stops people on the dock.
Regular checks, slip coordination, systems monitoring. Everything handled — so when you step aboard, the only thing you need to think about is where you're going.
Classic inboard engine servicing — including Detroit Diesel — and thorough detailing that keeps every surface in the condition a boat like this deserves.
Recent Work
"Upgraded her looks — now she's turning more heads than the tide."

The Craftsman
Casper grew up in Southern California. He trained at IYRS and has spent every year since working on classic wooden boats — studying them, restoring them, sailing them. He is not a company. He is a craftsman who found the right partner to share his work with the people who deserve it.
When he is not varnishing teak or sorting a Detroit Diesel, he is wing foiling off the Southern California coast. The water is not his office. It is his life.
Where We Work
Based out of Newport Harbor. Extending through the LA basin — Marina del Rey, San Pedro, and beyond. If your boat is on the Southern California waterfront, we can look after her.
Come to your slip. Look at the boat. Have an honest conversation about what she needs. That's how it starts.
